The power of music
Jasen is a physician assistant major and the music director for RIT Players. She is applying her passion for music to research that studied how music can reduce pain and anxiety in pediatric patients.
Always Evolving
The nutrition is an ever-changing field where knowledge is always evolving. Professor Ruder enjoys watching her students question what they know as they use hands-on experiences to contribute to future nutritional guidelines.
A spit take
Guy’s biomedical science research is analyzing microbes linked to cardiac disease. She’s hoping to keep the population healthy one vial of saliva at a time.
Streaming worldwide
RIT’s student-run radio station broadcasts to the Rochester community and streams worldwide. Nate, WITR’s music director, appreciates that RIT has a place where people who love music can bond over their passion and share that connection over the airwaves.

Mission and Vision

Student Government’s mission is to represent the interests of the student body through the implementation of innovative programs, services, and initiatives that enrich student lives. |
We will be the primary source of advocacy for students from RIT and utilize our shared governance structure to voice student opinions and concerns. RIT Student Government will be at the forefront of change within the university.
Structure
RIT Student Government is the governance group representing and serving students at RIT. SG is one of three groups that together contribute members to University Council. SG’s counterparts are Staff Council, which represents RIT’s staff, and Faculty Senate, which represents RIT’s faculty.
University Council directly advises the President, who makes all final decisions. The President is accountable to the Board of Trustees, which has final responsibility for the university.
Internally, Student Government is composed of an executive branch and a senate. The President, who is the head of the executive branch, is elected by the student body each spring. Following the elections, the President appoints members of the executive (also known as the cabinet), which are then approved by the Senate.

RIT innovation helps illuminate lost history
The goal of libraries, museums, and archives around the world is to safeguard historical documents, but some objects can deteriorate with time. RIT’s Cultural Heritage Imaging (CHI) lab is using funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities to develop a relatively low-cost system that makes cultural heritage imaging methods more accessible.

Manifesting quantum: How RIT researchers are navigating the next frontier of physics
RIT researchers are zeroing in on quantum photonics, the creation, control, and detection of light. Photonics has long been a specialty of the university. RIT led the team that developed the first quantum photonic wafer, which is key to the future of mass-produced quantum communication systems.
